This district is located at 120.7 east meridian and 23.05 degrees north. To the east of Sinshih District are Shanshang and Sinhua districts. To the west lies Anding District. To the north is Shanhua District, while Yongkang District lies to the south. The district is accessible by rail, and occupies a total area of about 47.8096 square kilometers.
Sinshih District is slightly elliptical in shape, has a gentle topography with no mountainous or hilly areas, and is considered a part of the Jianan Plain. The land is checkered by numerous farms, but industrial and commercial develop- ment also saw the appearance of many factory buildings, giving the region great urbanisation potential. Given these features, Sinshih area was also chosen as the locale for Tainan Science Park.
